Law Enforcement Executive Program (LEEP)

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of the Law Enforcement Executive Program is to build proactive leadership among law enforcement executives, which will enable them to manage their most critical current and future challenges effectively. It is presumed that participants, from their previous education and experience, already have good basic managerial skills and a strong working knowledge of North Carolina local government and police service. The Law Enforcement Executive Program will build on this foundation by giving participants an opportunity to:

  • Explore current ideas and techniques of public management as they apply to police agencies;
  • Sharpen personal skills necessary to excel as police managers; and
  • Step outside daily activities and responsibilities to think creatively about the job of managing a law enforcement agency in an increasingly complex, uncertain, and changing environment.

The Law Enforcement Executive Program will focus on providing the participants with tools to help them resolve those issues that arise on a day-to-day basis. It is designed to ensure that all participants apply the relevant skills they learn when they return to their department.

Dates for the 2009-2010 Session (beginning in October 2009) are posted on the "Cost & Dates" page. Link to online application here.
